Description
- A high-quality, medical-grade orthosis designed to improve finger alignment and enhance ability to grip for patients suffering from ulnar drift.
- Supports the arches of the hand while providing alignment and stabilization to help with management of pain.
- The adjustable fastening system allows the hook to be placed anywhere on the splint to optimize the direction of pull needed. The straps may be applied horizontally over the fingers, or to lift the finger more, the straps may be applied diagonally over the knuckles.
- The orthosis has a slightly wider fit on the little finger side to effectively counteract the pulling direction.
- Low profile design includes slit in little finger side of hand-wrap section to comfortably mold to the contours of the hand without inhibiting function.
- Fabric can be easily trimmed without fraying, for further customization if required. The breathable, lightweight material provides maximum comfort and support for all-day and nighttime wear.
- If additional wrist support is needed, it can be used together with an Allard Selection wrist orthosis (search Amazon for Allard Selection).
- Selecting correct size is important: See sizing chart in photos.
- For optimum function, it is highly recommended that this splint be fitted by a hand therapist or other trained medical professional.
An ulnar deviation splint is a type of orthotic device designed to help manage and correct the condition known as ulnar deviation. Ulnar deviation, also called ulnar drift, is a hand deformity where the fingers are angled towards the ulna (the long bone on the little finger side of the forearm) at the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints (knuckles), causing the fingers to drift away from the thumb. Ulnar deviation is likely to be a characteristic for those with various forms of inflammatory disease, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. Ulnar Deviation Splints help to correct alignment of joints of the fingers and may improve extension, strength, and function of the hand. They may also reduce pain and joint stiffness. This splint type may also be used to assist with realignment and stabilization in patients with joint laxity and muscle weakness. Not intended for use with fixed contractures of the hand. Allard specializes in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of orthoses that are intended to support weak or injured parts of the forearm, wrist, thumb, and hand. They can also correct orthopedic malposition and are often adapted to meet special needs of individual patients.
