Description
- Botanical Name: Cistus ladaniferus
- Origin: Spain
- Extraction Method: Steam Distillation
- Type: Conventional
- Plant Part: Leaves
Cistus essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the flowering plant, Cistus ladaniferus. A member of the rock-rose family of flowering plants, for its preference of growing in dry rocky soils in the Mediterranean region; its leaves are coated in a sticky resin called labdanum or laudanum. It is these leaves and the stalk, not the flowers, from which the essential oil is extracted. Most commonly used in perfumery, it blends well with many other oils and is a very good base.
