Jatamansi (Nardostachys Jatamansi) grows in India, Nepal, China, Bhutan and the Himalayas. Jatamansi has fleshy, cylindrical rhizomes, reaching a length of 8 cm. Branched dark gray rhizomes are densely covered with brown, long, thin root fibers. At the base, a bunch of reddish-brown leafy sheaths from wilted leaves borders the rhizome. Stems of Jatamansi can reach 60 cm in length. Shoots are often up straight, but can also be creeping. Flowers with purple, purplish-red or pink bell-shaped corolla. There are two forms of flowers of Nardostachys Jatamansi: large and small. The fruit of the plant is the obovate achene.
