What Worked For MeAs a mother and a (retired) obstetritian I have had many occasions to prescribe iron supplements over the years, as well as take them myself. When my internist told me recently that I was anemic my first thought was, what can I take that won't mess up my entire GI system! Pills, whether capsules or tablets, have caused upset stomach for me, and many, many of my patients just couldn't tolerate the associated constipation. Sometimes it seemed that the entire diet had to change to focus on taking iron. These days there are so many choices it can be hard to know what is best for your unique system. Increasing the amount of iron containing foods is always a good choice, but for most people it just isn't enogh, quick enough, to start feeling relief from the tired, draggy feeling that anemia gives you. I had one patient who had to get her iron measurement up from almost 1/2 of normal to a safe level before we could do her much needed surgery. I suggested a blood transfusion (yes, it was that low) and she said she could get it there by eating ocra! I didn't really believe that it could work that fast and planned to have a couple of units of blood ready on the day of surgery just in case. To my great surprise she did it! I asked for details and she told me she had a total of 3 bushels of fresh from the garden okra over the 6 weeks time.I greatly admire her, but personally I am really glad there are alternatives! I decided that finding a liquid supplement would give me the best control over how I take it. Then I needed to find a formula with enough elemental iron to do the job without too many side effects. Lquid Iron was my choice. Although it said "great tasting" I reserved judgement. Medicine is medicine, not a choice of an afternoon cocktail. And it's IRON after all, of course it will taste metallic! Congratulate yourself on your discerning sense of taste and know that you are getting the Real Thing!Every morning I put my dose of Liquid Iron in a glass, add my usual dose of Vit C powder and some filtered tap water, and drink it right down. It is great tasting that way, or if it isn't I don't know because it's down my throat and into my stomach in a flash. I've been taking Liquid Iron for about 10 days now, and I am already feeling perkier and more like my old self. I haven't had my blood tested again yet, but I'm seeing the signs that my body is absorbing the iron and putting it to use.I'm so glad I found the Liquid Iron. I probably will be taking it for a long time, and I'm okay with that. Now all I have to do is cancel that order for two truckloads of okra! 5Gross but it works wonders!Let me start by saying, I don't work for this company. I wasn't given anything for free. I was not paid to leave this review!! I say this, bc you can never trust reviews anymore. I'm an honest customer who bought this item full price & is leaving an honest review!YES IT'S GROSS:Unlike some ppl I've seen on here, I refuse to give it low stars because of the bad taste. It's not like your buying candy! Yes, it's gross. It tastes like you are eating grape maple syrup out of an old, rusty spoon. I actually tilt my head back and let it pour down my throat. I can still taste it, but it's way better than just spooning it into your mouth. I highly recommend doing it this way.MY STORY:I'm a 34 yrs old female. 5 yrs ago, I had low iron, but now I'm very anemic. My energy level has gotten worse & worse over the years as my iron levels have dropped. I never consistently took iron pills (1-2 pills every other month), because I didn't like how it made me feel backed up. Plus made my poop black. Getting enough iron in my diet is insanely hard, so I think that's why it's gotten worse. The last few months I was basically fed up with being tired all the time & tried looking for options to get a lot of iron without being constipated. That's when I heard about taking liquid iron. And here we are!!FIRST WEEK OF TAKING IT:After 2 days, I felt a difference in my energy level. I was crazy busy & running around all over the place. Normally I would be tired by noon doing HALF of the stuff I was doing, but I actually felt like I had energy all day! I was shocked by this, bc I was pretty skeptical. The whole week seemed awesome, until the end of the week when I forgot to take it for 2 days. I noticed an increase in my fatigue! Maybe it was a busy week, but I swear I'm convinced I was extra tired bc I didn't have my iron.THE POOP SITUATION:Unlike what I was lead to believe, I DID get constipated & my poop DID black. But those first 48 hours of taking it were so magical, that I decided to outweigh the good with the bad. After a few short days, I think my body adapted and everything seems totally normal when it comes to that. My poop is no longer black & I seem to be going No2 normally. It makes me wonder if my body would have adjusted had I just taken my iron pills more than 3 days in a row, but overall I'm 100% positive I never felt energized with my iron pills as I do with this liquid stuff. So I'm happy w my decision in taking it.MY ANEMIA:Overall, I can only say what this has done to my energy levels. But I cannot say what it's done to my iron levels/anemia, though I'm very curious to know. I do plan on getting blood work done in the next month & I will happily leave an updated review. But for now, I will say I love it!Really happy to have discovered this! 5Life SAVERLiquid miracle is more like it. I have been practically unable to get out of bed, very depressed and was hating the world. I am a different person since I started taking this LAST WEEK. For any woman out there that are feeling bad and have NO ENERGY and can't figure out whats going on inside- give this a try. Your iron is probably low. I have already recommend this to several people (3) and they have already ordered the product. I am becoming a mini spokesperson for this amazing product. Thanks you! 5A god send!I am so pleased with this product. For months I had been prescribed 325g of ferrous sulfate tablets by my doctor. They upset my stomach, caused constipation and required me to remember to take them 3 times a day with an hour or two between meals. Such an inconvience. I researched liquid iron pills once I found out that such a thing existed and it led me here. The taste is pleasant and I experience none of the side effects I had taking the pills. Plus my energy levels are returning to normal quicker. I highly recommend this product! 5Quick treatment for Iron deficiency anemia!I have taken NovaFerrum liquid iron for 3 months. My serum ferritin level started out at a 3!!Just got recent lab results back and my ferritin is now a healthy 106!!!This, along with one iron infusion, has helped my anemia SIGNIFICANTLY!!!I take NovaFerrum with an 8oz glass of Emergen-C for better absorption.(Do not take with orange juice, as most o.j. contains calcium-which negates the action of iron)I surprisingly had multiple doctors tell me to take iron with orange juice!Bottom line: fabulous product!I feel like I have my life back! 5So far, so good.I've only been taking this iron supplement for a week or so now, but I've been pretty severely anemic (iron infusions, pills, and even blood transfusions) for several years. So far, this supplement hasn't messed with my stomach like pills have, and it's far more affordable than the iron infusions I was getting. The taste is a little sweeter than I'd like, though I prefer that to the taste of metal. :) My only complaint, and I'm not sure that this is their responsibility, is that there isn't a clear conversion for elemental iron vs. regular iron that I've seen. I did find that information in the reviews, though. One teaspoon of NovaFerrum 125 meets my iron prescription, and I'm already starting to feel a difference in muscle strength and how out of breath I get when I exercise. I'll update again after I get my blood work updated and have some hard facts. 4NovaFerrum is tops for quickly moving iron levels upI have EXTREMELY low iron levels and ferritin. so low i should probably have a transfusion and really should have been dead. but i have spent the past few years with fluctuation in my iron levels. I honestly contribute my low levels to what food I have ingested over the year before i have blood drawn. But also I have Hashimotos thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, uterine fibroid grapefruit size, and peri-menopause. Anyway, my GP wanted me to take a huge dose of iron tablets 3 times a day along with a stool softener but if you want your iron to be absorbed properly it should be taken on an empty stomach and you have to be careful with other medicine, etc etc. I don't have time for all that nor did i want to be compliant with her orders. So on to Amazon b/c I had heard that liquid iron absorption is quicker than pill form, and i found this product and spent a lot of time pouring through the reviews. The bottle comes with a little plastic spoon-like measure. I began taking half the spoon and after a week took a full spoon. I did this every day once a day for about 6-8 weeks. Labs came back indicating i brought my Iron from a 5 (embarrassing i know) to a 9 (yayyyy not so close to death). This last lab visit i was still at a 9 but i had not been as compliant with taking my iron every day first thing in the morning an hour before eating. however at the same time i was bad about a starbucks run everyday and we all know that coffee can inhibit the uptake of iron supplements. So now I am measuring 3tsp per day. The GP wants twice a day - i have time for once a day. And we'll see what the labs say in August ( but also I have started on the Whole30 elimination and I'm hoping it will have a positive effect on my labs as well). If there is anything i don't like about this product it would be the taste but certainly that is just a personal thing. Though I don't need the added sugar, I have to chug a tiny glass of OJ after taking the NovaFerrum 125. Then i take a big gulp of water. Whatever I can do to keep from gagging.Despite my personal issues with the taste I do have to say this is a quality product if you are looking for a quick way to up your iron levels. My goal is to keep taking until both my iron and ferritin levels are within normal limits and then I will begin taking a 25mg daily supplement until not needed. 4THE BEST - WITH important InformationEven after having taken solid and chelated iron pills for months, I still had critical iron numbers, so I purchased this and take it along with Ferritin Tablets (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00014ECFO/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00014ECFO&linkCode=as2&tag=4abettelife&linkId=05e3444c188fee00d3e841cb8fab7ae9 )It comes in a box with a marked plastic measuring spoon (nice!).I take it on an empty stomach, at least an hour before a meal. I chase it with 12 ounces of orange juice (details below). I am careful to take it separate from calcium, or magnesium, or zinc - I understand these can interfere with iron absorption. If I take my multi-vitamins in the morning, I do the iron at night, or vice versa.Within DAYS I could tell my iron levels were improving. I could breathe more easily, my energy levels were much much higher, and I could do triple the exercises I did days before.I love this product. It's pleasant to the tongue. (I do chase it with a glass of orange juice, because iron absorbs better when taken with vitamin C, and because it prevents nausea).I will tell you though, I titrated my does (started with half the dose, then worked my way up as my body got used to it), because iron is really hard on the system (very oxidizing to the stomach and intestines). The first day I took it, I didn't take it with enough liquid and within 20 minutes I was very nauseous. But it was bearable, only lasted 40 minutes, then went away completely. Then I started chasing it with 8-12 ounces orange juice, with much less nausea.I do NOT recommend mixing the iron into the orange juice. 1. It's icky sweet together and 2. the iron can stain your teeth, or so I've read. I spoon the iron into the back of my mouth, swallow it, then drink my OJ.For a week, after each dose I had slight sternum discomfort (this is a well-documented side-effect of iron-loading, and was for me proof positive it was working. It calmed down after about a week. It has not happened since my body has built up my iron numbers.)To reduce the harsh oxidizing effects on the stomach and intestines, I also take a variety of anti-oxidants with it (omega 3, ALA, and EGCG).For maximum absorption, I also take 1 ounce of water with vitamin c because 12 oz OJ isn't enough Vit C to ensure there's enough immediately available Vit C for max iron absorption. For what it's worth, I did do research on whether the body absorbs more iron if you take higher doses, and the answer seems to be, "not so much". They even say absorption seems better if you only take it once a day, not twice. So if you have nausea on the full dose, you may do just as well iron-loading with the 1/2 dose.I do intend to update my post when I have my newest blood test numbers to show the before-and-after, but I need 3 months for that.I bought a second bottle, will purchase again.Highly, Highly Recommended. 5Our pediatrician at Mayo Clinic Rochester recommended this for my 3 year old daughter because her ...This stuff works! Our pediatrician at Mayo Clinic Rochester recommended this for my 3 year old daughter because her ferritin level was in the teens. It should be in the 50's. The pediatrician wanted to see it near 50 within two months. However, after only 1 month her ferritin level is FORTY SEVEN. 47 after only 1 month! Also, my 3 year old daughter doesn't mind the taste! Which says a lot because she is very picky with medicine! 5Highly recommendProduct is amazing. Iron levels went from 45 to over 200 by taking 1 tsp once a day for 3 months. Ferretin levels remained at 11 but the hematologist said it takes a long time for ferretin to increase. Iron saturation went from 10% to 55%. I called the company that makes the product and believe I talked to a pharmacist. He was patient and very informative in talking thru what my blood work means. He recommended the same thing the hematologist did and that was to increase to 2 tsp / day for 2 months to help bring up the ferretin. This is a highly effective absorbable product along with vitamin C. We are on our 3 purchase. 5
