Lucio is not only an accomplished coffee farmer, he is also a leader in his community and cooperative. He was born on July 5th 1965, in the community of Pasuja Pampa, Camacho Province in the highlands of La Paz ("Altiplano"), and migrated to Colonia San Ignacio in the Caranavi Province, in 1985, when he was 20 years old. He married twice, and has four kids with his first wife, and three with his second and current one. He is the past president of the San Ignacio Cooperative, and now he is in charge of sales for the entire group. He participated in the last two Cup of Excellence competitons due to Invalsas encouragement, and barely missed making it to the international auction. His farm is 10 hectares (about 22 acres) big, four hectares of which are dedicated exclusively to coffee. He only grows Tipica coffee varietal. Lucio's farm is located at 5,300 feet above sea level (ideal conditions for growing the Arabica coffee varietal) in the Carrasco La Reserva County of the Caranavi Povince of the La Paz Department in Bolivia's new Plurinational State. We have known Lucio for several years now an this is the eleventh year in a row that we have purchased all of his microlot-quality coffee production.
